Almost 3,000 endangered fig trees from 1,308 different varieties. Son Mut Nou, an estate in the heart of the Marina de Llucmajor in Mallorca, is committed to conserving and analysing all the different types of fig trees. That is the aim of Montserrat Pons y Boscana, a pharmacist from Llucmajor, whose love for fig trees and research on their importance in Mallorcan life and history led her to begin a project which is the only one of its kind in the world.
Son Mut Nou is an experimental area where fig trees are grown so they can be studied and better known scientifically. This also allows an analysis of their importance in the development of Mallorcan society, founded on the land and agriculture.
